Used Robinson R44 for Sale
HQ Aviation sells used Robinson R44 helicopters from Denham, near London, every one inspected and certified by our own CAA Part-145 Robinson service centre. As the dealer that also buys, rebuilds, maintains and flies R44s every day, we know exactly what a good one looks like, and what a bad one costs.
Raven I, Raven II or Cadet
The R44 family is the world's best-selling civil helicopter, but the right one depends on how you'll fly it. New-model detail lives on our Robinson R44 page; here's the used-market view.
R44 Raven I
The carburetted four-seater: the value entry into R44 ownership, with hydraulic controls and the same airframe as the Raven II.
R44 Raven II
The fuel-injected flagship: more payload and better hot-and-high performance. The most sought-after used R44, and good ones sell fast.
R44 Cadet
The two-seat trainer derivative with a de-rated engine and generous useful load, built for schools and time-building.
What a used R44 is really worth
Two R44s with the same year and paint can be tens of thousands of pounds apart in true value. These four things decide it:
The 12-year / 2,200-hour clock
Every R44 reaches overhaul at 12 calendar years or 2,200 flying hours, whichever comes first. Where an aircraft sits on both clocks is the single biggest driver of its value, and of your next big bill.
Component times & history
Blades, gearboxes and engine each carry their own life. A complete, gap-free logbook history and consistent maintenance provenance matter more than a shiny paint job.
Corrosion & damage history
Where has it lived: hangared or outside, coastal or inland? Any incident repairs? These decide long-term cost far more than cosmetics.
Avionics & spec
Glass or steam, autopilot, air-con, leather: spec moves both price and resale. We will tell you honestly which upgrades hold value and which do not.
Not sure? Commission an independent pre-purchase inspection. Our engineers inspect R44s for buyers even when the aircraft isn't ours.

How much does a used Robinson R44 cost?
It varies widely with calendar age, hours remaining to the 2,200-hour/12-year overhaul, component times, spec and history. The same model year can differ by six figures. Ask us for the current stock list and we will give you real, current asking prices rather than a guess.
Is the R44 a good first helicopter?
Yes. It is the world’s best-selling civil helicopter for a reason: four seats, honest handling, a huge support network, and strong resale. Many of our students buy an R44 during or straight after their PPL(H).
What should I check before buying a used R44?
The overhaul clocks (12 years / 2,200 hours), component times, logbook completeness, corrosion and damage history, and spec. Better: have it inspected by a Robinson-approved Part-145 engineer, and we offer independent pre-purchase inspections.
Why buy through a CAA Part-145 Robinson service centre?
Because the people selling you the aircraft are the same engineers who maintain the type every day. Every used R44 we sell is inspected and certified in our own workshop, and we can look after it for you afterwards, with maintenance, rebuilds and parts under one roof.
Will you buy or trade in my current helicopter?
Often, yes. We buy and take trade-ins on R22s, R44s and R66s, depending on the aircraft. Send us the details and we'll give you a free valuation, usually within a working day.
Can you help with delivery and handover?
Ask us. As an operating school and dealer we can arrange collection, ferry flights, and a proper type-familiarisation handover at Denham, 30 minutes from central London.
