The arrival

From the motorway to the hover, in four steps.

01Leaving London

Out past the M25, and you are there

Set the sat-nav to UB9 5DF. Leave the M40 at Junction 1, where the M25 joins at Junction 16, and follow the signs for Denham Aerodrome onto Hangar Road.

From central London the A40 and M40 take around 30 minutes. Coming by train, Chiltern runs direct from Marylebone to Denham in 25 to 30 minutes, and Denham Golf Club and Gerrards Cross are both a short taxi away.

02Through the gate

No terminal, no queue

Denham is an aerodrome, not an airport. You park by the hangar, for free, and walk out to the aircraft. There is no security line and no terminal to cross.

We are in Hangar E. If you have not been before, come to us and someone will take you out.

Thirty Robinsons and the shop that keeps them flying

HQ Aviation flies one of the largest Robinson fleets in the UK from this hangar: more than 30 R22, R44 and R66 helicopters, out every day.

The CAA Part-145 engineering shop is in the same building, so the aircraft you fly is maintained a few metres from where it stands.

Then the ground goes away

The walk from the hangar door to the aircraft takes about a minute. Denham sits in the Colne Valley, so you are over open country almost as soon as you lift.

A trial lesson puts you on the controls for that. You fly it, from the hover onwards.

Flying in

Visiting pilots

Denham takes visiting traffic with prior permission from the aerodrome operator. Procedures and circuit details are at egld.com, and PPR is theirs to give, not ours.

If you are flying in to see us, call +44 1895 833373 first and we will meet you on the apron. We are open 08:30 to 17:00, seven days a week, so tell us roughly when to expect you.

Denham keeps the character of a working aerodrome rather than an airport. It is quieter, closer, and a good deal less trouble to fly into.
